Naturally, the centerpiece of the day was the funky jams being thrown down by the likes of Neville Jacobs, the Honey Island Swamp Band, Mike Zito & The Wheel, Colin Lake and Johnny Sansone on the fests stages.Colin Lake kicked things off on the main stage with a rollicking, bluesy set that had folks trying desperately to dance and eat at the same time in the cavernous main stage area. Inside the brewery itself, a more intimate stage featured some impressive jamming from Johnny Sansone and Mike Zito that served as high energy guitar laden bookends for the Colin Lake set. New Orleans premiere rocking Americana act Honey Island Swamp Band had the ever growing audience singing along and enjoying tunes from their excellent new album, Demolition Day.Wrapping up the first day of the festival was a special set from the Neville Jacobs collaboration between Dumpstaphunk‘s keyboardist supreme Ivan Neville and soulful guitarist Cris Jacobs, formerly of The Bridge. Neville related the story of the new band’s formation, as he told us in an interview earlier this year, around a poker table. After recognizing Jacobs from various mutual festival appearances, the two bonded over a bad night at the tables and decided to try and at make something positive come out of their unlucky stretch, and the rest was history.Jacobs’ guitar style practically has its own southern drawl, and it fits well with Neville’s sweetness on the keys and gruff singing voice.  Veteran drummer Benny Blade and Neville’s Dumpsta bandmate Tony Hall on bass round out a truly intriguing and original sounding line up.Their set was marked with a variety of remarkable covers mixed in with material from the band’s forthcoming album.  An emotional tribute to the recently deceased Prince, including a emotional “Little Red Corvette” and a jubilant “I Would Die 4 U,” added to the many moving tributes that have been performed all around the city and on the stages of Jazz Fest. With the first day in the books the NOLA Crawfish Festival bolted out of the gate and set a high bar for the days to follow.  Sunny skies and smiling faces were all around as the air was filled with wonderful music and the intoxicating aroma of fresh seafood. Check out some exclusive videos and photos from Day One below, and come by the NOLA Brewery today and tomorrow from 3-10 PM for hours of funky tunes and delicious food!Honey Island Swamp Band:Neville Jacobs “Wasted”:last_img read more

first_img View Comments Kelli O’Hara & Ken Watanabe in ‘The King & I'(Photo: Paul Kolnik) The King and I bid farewell to Tony winner Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe on April 17, and the two left with the revival whistling a happy tune. The show grossed $1,013,157 this past week, marking the first time since the winter holidays that the production reached seven figures. Meanwhile, five usual suspects topped the board: The Lion King, the newly Pulitzer-awarded Hamilton, Wicked, Aladdin and The Book of Mormon. Waitress, which opens officially on April 24, had its highest-grossing week yet at $937,590; the Sara Bareilles tuner will likely join the millionaire’s club as press previews die down. Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour played its first preview on April 16; in the one performance, it exceeded 100% capacity and was just shy of reaching its full gross potential. Here’s a look at who was on top—and who was not—for the week ending April 17:FRONTRUNNERS (By Gross)1. Leveling the playing field: Regulatory changes & booming CU business lending

December 17, 2020

first_imgThe data (in graph 1) shows that total business loans, inclusive of MBLs and commercial loans (accounting for the overlap between the two) have grown 27% over the last 2 years. Furthermore, as of Q3 2018, business lending has grown 15%, notwithstanding the removal of 1-to-4 family dwelling from the definition of MBLs. That growth doesn’t account for any single 1-to-4 family dwelling loans (which is likely growing as well) since those loans no longer count as  business loans. So, in reality, if you consider 1-to-4 family loans in addition to business lending, the growth is even higher.Beginning in June 2018, the data shows an initial drop in total MBL/Commercial lending, which reflects the removal of 1-to-4 family homes from those categories. In every consecutive quarter following, MBL/Commercial lending has continued to grow quarter over quarter.Additionally, non-member commercial loans acquired through participations are not counted towards a credit union’s MBL limit, creating new balance sheet capacity for credit unions to better serve their business members while simultaneously diversifying their portfolios. The terminology and classifications of MBL versus commercial loans is confusing, especially given all of the recent changes, so we’ve outlined the classifications that are considered MBLs/commercial loans/both to facilitate better understanding of the regulatory changes.Ultimately, these regulatory changes and the resulting growth simply reflect the capital needs of small and medium-sized local businesses and how well credit unions can effectively match that need.  Absent the combination of business need and credit union effectiveness, all the regulatory changes in the world would not have mattered. While the future direction of the economy may be uncertain, what is certain is that credit unions will continue to grow business lending as the best provider of capital to this incredibly important but underserved area of business. Credit Union business lending is on the rise. Notably, as of Q3 2019, MBLs are 6.19% of total loans compared to 5.65% as of Q1 2018 according to NCUA. This growth is due to a few factors, not the least of which is a number of recent regulatory changes creating room for business lending growth to bloom, including:A loan secured by a 1-to-4 family dwelling, regardless of the member’s occupancy status, is no longer classified as an MBL or commercial loan.A non-member business loan or a non-member participation interest in a commercial loan made by another lender is not classified as an MBL. 8SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr,Ian Lampl Ian Lampl is CEO & Co-Founder of LoanStreet Inc., an innovative online platform that helps financial institutions share, manage, and originate loans.Prior to launching LoanStreet, Ian served as Deputy … Web: https://www.loan-street.com Detailslast_img read more
