Jokowi to attend US-ASEAN Special Summit in March: State Palace

first_imgPresident Joko “Jokowi” is scheduled to attend the upcoming United States-ASEAN Special Summit, which is expected to be held in Las Vegas in March, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has confirmed. “The President will attend the US-ASEAN Special Summit in the US at the same time when he will embark on an official state visit to the US,” Pramono said at the Presidential Palace on Friday.US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently confirmed that the summit will be held in Las Vegas “on the second weekend of March”, AFP reported, though concerns remain that the coronavirus outbreak could lead to the summit’s cancellation. Pramono said that Jokowi was scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump for a bilateral meeting after the summit, although he did not provide further details. The US had approached ASEAN countries’ leaders about visits following the cancellation of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit – originally scheduled in November last year – in Chile due to domestic protests.Trump, meanwhile, previously skipped the ASEAN Summit and the parallel East Asian Summit in Bangkok last year, sending his national security advisor, Robert O’Brien, to attend the events.Topics :last_img
