MASON CITY — A Hampton man faces several charges after a pursuit in Mason City on Saturday morning. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy conducted a traffic stop shortly before 1 o’clock at 4th and South Pierce. They say 44-year-old Troy Wiebke sped away from the deputy at a high rate of speed with a pursuit going through northwestern Mason City, going through several parks and streets. The pursuit ended when Wiebke drove westbound on railroad tracks along South Pierce on the north side of Black Pit. Wiebke lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a group of trees. He then fled on foot, got into the water and attempted to swim away, and later had to be rescued from the pit with deputies and other officers swimming out to pull him to shore. Wiebke was charged with felony eluding, driving while barred, operating while under the influence, driving while revoked, driving under suspension and was also being held on a Floyd County warrant for failure to appear in court.
