The Setup PanelWe need to head to the setup panel to configure our ADR session. This is the panel where you will configure the recording and ADR guidance tools. Before you set the record track, let’s look at what we need to replace in the timeline. As you can see in my example, I have four clips that have been marked, and the marked clips require dialogue replacement. They are on track two, which is titled “Man.” Therefore, in the setup panel, I’m going to change the guide track to “Man.” This is the track that the talent will hear as a reference for their recording. With the guide track selected, we now need to choose a recording track for the dialog replacement. Alternatively, you could also use the track that has old audio as a recording track, which the software will automatically overwrite. After selecting a recording track, you can now select the recording source (this will be grayed out until you select the recording track). With the main recording settings configured, you can now set the individual parameters that will assist with the recording. First, let’s step back and look at pre and post-roll options at the top of the Setup panel. Adding seconds into this dialog box will specify how many seconds to play before and after the marked range in your timeline. For example, for my ADR session, I’m going to set my pre-roll to three seconds, and this will give me and the talent a three-second lead before the marked in point. The post-roll is for the end of the marked selection. At the bottom of the setup panel, you’ll find a variety of options that can assist the talent, such as a beep at the in-point, or even a countdown that displays an onscreen timer. You could even pair the timer with a video streamer and have a beep; there are several variations of what you could do here, but ultimately, it should reflect whatever the talent finds easiest to work with. The final parameter to configure on this panel is the character setup. If you’re working with only one actor, you may not need to use it. But if you have multiple audio clips to replace with several actors, then you can add character names to make the process more comfortable in the list panel. With the setup configured, we now can go to the list panel to enter the dialogue that we need to replace. The List PanelBefore you enter your dialogue, you first have to mark the audio clip that you want to replace. As with the edit page, you use “I” to mark in and “O” to mark out. With that done, you can now hit “new cue” and write the dialogue in the dialogue box — along with selecting which character the line is for. When you have the list panel filled with different cues, you’ll find that if you select a cue, you can skip directly to that point in the timeline. If you accidentally set a cue that isn’t where you need it, you can adjust the time in the time field above the dialog box. With the cues written, it’s finally time to head to the record panel. The Record PanelThe record panel, as you might expect, is self-explanatory once you’ve gone through the other two panels. You select the cue, the playhead will jump to that position, and you hit record. Your countdown timer, or whatever function you have selected, will display on the preview monitor, and the dialog replacement from the actor will record onto your record track. However, there are a few things to look at on this panel. One of them is hidden; therefore, you have to extend the ADR panel, and in doing so, you’ll find a handy checkbox to mark after completing the cue. So you can put away your notepad and pen — for the time being anyway. We also have a rehearse button; it makes Resolve act as if you are recording without actually recording. This will give your actor a chance to warm up and become familiar with the pre-roll. The final element of the record panel — and perhaps the coolest — is that after several takes, you can rate each take to evaluate later. This is the ADR panel. It’s a fantastic addition to the Fairlight page, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.Looking for more video tutorials? Resolve 15 includes a very useful ADR panel. In this video tutorial, we’ll take a look at what you need to know to configure it properly. In Resolve 14, we all enjoyed the Fairlight page — a dedicated page with professional audios tools. At the time of release, Blackmagic said that the Fairlight page was not complete and that we would see updates and new tools as the software progressed — and arguably, the ADR tool is the most exciting feature we’ve seen in 15. In the following video tutorial, you can learn how to configure ADR panel to start your own ADR session. This is the standard UI layout for the Fairlight page, but before we start, we’re going to open the meters so we can see our video footage, which is integral to the process. You can adjust the panels to increase the size of the preview monitor — or by clicking the pop-out button, we can have a floating monitor, which we can increase to any size. Hitting Escape on your keyboard will quickly return the preview monitor to its docked position. With that task completed, let’s open the ADR panel, which (you guessed it) we do by clicking the ADR button.Using the ADR function isn’t difficult, but it does require some configuration, and I think this is the part where some users may trip over themselves. In the ADR panel, we have three sub-panels: List, Record, and Setup. I would have preferred to see them listed as Setup, List, Record, as that’s the way you would work through the menus until you’re ready to start recording.

US President Donald Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas, in Panmunjom, South Korea, June 30, 2019.ReutersUS President Donald Trump became the first sitting US president to set foot in North Korea on Sunday when he met its leader, Kim Jong-un, in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the two Koreas and agreed to resume stalled nuclear talks. The meeting, initiated by a spur-of-the-moment tweet by Trump that Kim said took him by surprise, once again displayed the rapport between the two. But they are no closer to narrowing the gap between their positions since they walked away from their summit in February in Vietnam. The two men shook hands warmly and expressed hopes for peace when they met for the third time in just over a year on the old Cold War frontier that for decades has symbolised the hostility between their countries, which are technically still at war.Trump, escorted by Kim, briefly crossed a military demarcation line into the North side of the Joint Security Area (JSA), patrolled by soldiers from both Koreas.Moments later, they returned to the southern side and joined South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in for a brief chat, marking an unprecedented three-way gathering.Trump and Kim then held a closed-door meeting for nearly an hour.”We just had a very, very good meeting,” Trump said after the talks. “We’ll see what can happen.”He said both sides would set up teams to push forward stalled talks aimed at getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, adding “speed is not the thing.”Pope Francis, making his weekly address in St. Peter’s Square, praised the meeting. “I salute the protagonists, with a prayer that such a significant gesture will be a further step on the road to peace, not only on that peninsula but for the good of the entire world,” he said.Trump and Kim met for the first time in Singapore in June last year and agreed to improve relations and work towards the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula. But the second summit in Hanoi broke down after the two sides failed to narrow differences between a US demand for North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons and a North Korean demand for sanctions relief.’PLENTY OF TIME’Kim looked relaxed and smiled as he chatted with Trump amidst a throng of press photographers, aides and bodyguards.Trump said the two leaders “moved mountains” to arrange the last-minute meeting.”I was surprised to see you expressed an intent to meet,” Kim told Trump, referring to Trump’s offer for a meeting in a tweet on Saturday. Trump came to South Korea after attending a Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan.”This is an expression of his willingness to leave behind the past and work towards a new future,” Kim said.Kim said it would be a great honour if Trump visited his capital of Pyongyang. The two agreed to visit each other’s country “at the right time,” Trump said.”To cross that line was a great honour,” Trump said, referring to his brief incursion into the North Korean side of the DMZ. “It’s a great day for the world.”But there has been little sign that North Korea and the United States are any closer to narrowing differences on the nuclear issue.US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters shortly before departing South Korea that a fresh round of talks will likely happen “sometime in July” and the North’s negotiators would be foreign ministry diplomats.Pompeo made clear in a tweet later that the United States believed that sanctions put in place under UN Security Council resolutions needed to remain in place as talks moved forward.”We remain ready to engage (North Korea) in negotiations, but remain firm on the implementation of UNSCRs ahead of denuclearization,” he said.Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul, said the meeting between the two leaders was important in reviving working-level talks.”But the North wouldn’t easily change its stance, even though Trump has effectively responded to the so-called top-down approach cherished by Kim,” he said.Trump said he had “plenty of time” and was in “no rush” to reach a deal.”We want to get it right,” he said.North Korea has pursued nuclear and missile programmes for years in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions, and easing tensions with North Korea is one of the U.S. president’s top foreign policy priorities. The DMZ was set up after the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armistice, not a truce, leaving North Korea and the United States still technically at war. read more
India is going to install Israel-developed fencing system along the border with Bangladesh to quickly stop any ‘infiltration attempt’, reports PTI.India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has acquired from Israel a ‘quick response team’ mechanism which, according to the report, strikes when the CCTV-powered control room detects any intrusion or suspicious activities. The BSF is implementing a project styled ‘comprehensive integrated border management system (CIBMS) part of the Narendra Modi government’s plan to completely seal the Indo-Pak and India-Bangladesh borders in the next few years, writes PTI.”There is going to be a paradigm shift in our operational preparedness,” BSF director general KK Sharma was quoted to have said.”As of now, we patrol from point-A to point-B (along the border). What we are now planning is to shift to a QRT (quick reaction team)-based system and a number of new technologies which have not been tried so far are being tested.”The PTI report said the system will be set up at ‘porous patches’ at Tripura, West Bengal and Dhubri (Assam) along the Indo-Bangla border.”Now, we have softwares which are in a position to detect any intrusion or any change in the scenario and create an alarm,” the DG was quoted to have said.He reportedly detailed that n automatic alarm will indicate the exact place where this intrusion (at the border) is taking place or an attempt is being made or something is being seen.”Once we get the alarm, we will zoom our night vision cameras on that and when we come to know what is happening, we will be able to neutralise the threat. This is the idea,” PTI quoted Sharma as saying. He reportedly added, the system, of smart fences and surveillance methods, is from the state-of-the-art technologies being used in Israel.”In fact, we will have the latest versions of all those things that are being used there (Israel).” read more
Riot police line up near protestors outside University Medical Center, where President Trump was visiting shooting victims, following a mass shooting which left at least 22 people dead, on 7 August 2019 in El Paso, Texas. Photo: AFPMexico said Thursday that 122 of its citizens were among the 680 undocumented immigrants detained in a major series of raids at food processing plants in the United States.Foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard said the government would provide consular assistance and “guarantee the adequate legal defense of all Mexican nationals” detained in Wednesday’s raids in the southeastern state of Mississippi. Those who are deported will have the government’s support to access employment, education and health care in Mexico, he told a press briefing. The raids came after president Donald Trump promised to round up “millions of illegal aliens.”They left tearful family members, including children, rushing to say goodbye as immigrants lined up to board busses to be driven to detention centers.Ebrard initially said 107 Mexicans had been detained. The foreign ministry later updated the figure to 122, “of whom 34 have been released and issued a court summons,” it said.Ebrard, who has the tricky task of handling US relations in the face of Trump’s frequent anti-Mexican attacks, did not criticize Wednesday’s raids, hewing to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s line of avoiding confrontation with Mexico’s crucial neighbor and trading partner. But he said Mexico would ask the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to inspect the detention centers where the migrants are being held.He also announced Mexico City would host a meeting of Latin American officials on 15 August to “discuss the defense and promotion of Spanish-speaking civilizations and culture… especially in the United States.”The raids occurred the same day Trump visited El Paso, Texas, in the wake of a mass shooting by a gunman who killed 22 people after publishing a racist manifesto in which he vowed to fight a “Hispanic invasion” of the US. read more
(Phys.org) —A new study conducted by a team of American and Greek researchers has found that the people of the ancient Minoan civilization living on the island of Crete most likely came from Europe. In their paper published in the journal Nature Communications, the team says mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) evidence contradicts the long held notion that the people of the long lost civilization came from Africa. Evidence of the great Minoan civilization first came to light in 1900, when an excavation by Sir Arthur Evans discovered the Palace of Minos on the island of Crete. Noting similarities between artwork discovered there and in parts of Egypt, Evans suggested it was possible the early inhabitants of the island came from Africa. Since that time, others have concurred, while some suggest the Minoans more likely came from the Middle East, or even from Europe. In this new study, the researchers turned to mtDNA for the true answer. The team took samples from skeletal remains of over 100 early denizens of the island that had been found in a cave by other researchers. They then compared the mtDNA from those samples with samples taken from people living in the modern world, as well as with some samples from other old world inhabitants. Citation: mtDNA study shows Minoans came from Europe not Africa (2013, May 15) retrieved 18 August 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2013-05-mtdna-minoans-europe-africa.html One of the buildings in Knossos restored by British archeologist Sir Arthur Evans. Credit: Getty Images More information: A European population in Minoan Bronze Age Crete, Nature Communications 4, Article number: 1861 doi:10.1038/ncomms2871AbstractThe first advanced Bronze Age civilization of Europe was established by the Minoans about 5,000 years before present. Since Sir Arthur Evans exposed the Minoan civic centre of Knossos, archaeologists have speculated on the origin of the founders of the civilization. Evans proposed a North African origin; Cycladic, Balkan, Anatolian and Middle Eastern origins have also been proposed. Here we address the question of the origin of the Minoans by analysing mitochondrial DNA from Minoan osseous remains from a cave ossuary in the Lassithi plateau of Crete dated 4,400–3,700 years before present. Shared haplotypes, principal component and pairwise distance analyses refute the Evans North African hypothesis. Minoans show the strongest relationships with Neolithic and modern European populations and with the modern inhabitants of the Lassithi plateau. Our data are compatible with the hypothesis of an autochthonous development of the Minoan civilization by the descendants of the Neolithic settlers of the island.Press release Journal information: Nature Communications War was central to Europe’s first civilization, contrary to popular belief An analysis of the test results indicates that the early inhabitants of Crete were likely farmers who settled on the island long before the appearance of the Minoan society. This suggests that the Minoan civilization most likely came about as a result of the evolution of the early farmers. No evidence of African ancestry was found. The Minoan civilization existed for approximately 1,200 years, vanishing around 1500 BC. Some suggest their sudden disappearance was due to a volcanic eruption and tsunami, while others say it was more likely the inhabitants of Crete were wiped out be an invading army. In any case, the Minoan civilization is considered to be first advanced civilization of Bronze Age Europe—the people there left behind huge buildings, impressive artwork and mysterious hieroglyphs. It appears likely the early farmers were part of a wave of immigrants coming from the Middle East and Anatolia to Europe looking for land to farm.As for the similarity between artwork found in Crete and Egypt, the researchers suggest it was most likely the result of trade between the two civilizations.
