Lady Demons’ Warren, Bearkats’ Miller Take Weekly Volleyball Honors

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Alexis Warren and Sam Houston State’s Addison Miller are the Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.Warren pushed the Lady Demons (11-7, 3-1 SLC) to a 3-1 win on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and a five-set victory at UIW on Saturday. The senior claimed her seventh double-double of the season with 20 kills and 12 digs against the Islanders. Warren and her NSU squad return to action this Tuesday at home against Lamar.Miller claimed defensive honors after pushing the Bearkats (8-8, 4-0 SLC) to a pair of sweeps over New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend. The senior libero racked up 36 digs to average six digs per set through the two-game stretch. The Bearkats will hit the court again this Thursday at home against Houston Baptist.The awards mark the first of the season for both Warren and Miller.Offensive Player of the Week: Alexis Warren, Northwestern State – Sr. – Outside Hitter – Cypress, TexasWarren turned in one of the best weekends of her stellar career as the Lady Demons picked up two conference wins on the road. The Cypress, Texas, native had 38 kills in two matches with a .402 hitting percentage and a 4.2 kill per set average. She recorded her first 20-kill match of the season in the win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to accompany a .425 hitting percentage, both season bests. She followed suit with an 18-kill performance at UIW, adding three service aces in the victory.Honorable Mention: Madi Bowles, Central Arkansas; Kayla Neumann, Lamar; Breanne Chausse, Sam Houston State; Corin Evans, Stephen F. Austin.Defensive Player of the Week: Addison Miller, Sam Houston State – Sr. – Libero – Prosper, TexasMiller had a pair of big matches to lead the Kats to a pair of sweeps last week, running their Southland Conference record to 4-0. Sam Houston State is now just one of two teams in the league with an unbeaten conference mark. The senior from Prosper, Texas, averaged six digs per set for the week against the Privateers and Lady Lions and now ranks fourth in the conference with 4.51 digs per set. She registered 14 against UNO and added another 22 digs in a win over SLU, as the Kats limited opponents to a .137 attack percentage for the week.Honorable Mention: Kate Hoerdemann, Nicholls; Megan Lohmiller, Northwestern State; Taya Mitchell, Stephen F.
