Cabinet discusses situation in the Gulf following Qatar crisis

Over 150,000 Sri Lankans are employed in Qatar and Jayasekera said Sri Lanka will hold talks with other countries on the crisis and decide on the way forward.Jayasekera also said that there was no move to suspend accepting the Qatar currency as a result of the crisis in the Gulf region. (Colombo Gazette) The United Arab Emirates (UAE), along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt cut on Monday diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing the Gulf state of supporting and financing “terrorism” as well as interfering in their internal affairs. Cabinet discussed the situation in the Gulf following the Qatar crisis, Cabinet co-spokesman Dayasiri Jayasekera said today.He said that the matter was discussed after Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake briefed the cabinet on the developments in the Gulf region. Later on the day, Yemen, the Maldives and Libya’s eastern-based Government also decided to sever diplomatic relations with Qatar.
